Jellyfish: A Poignant Portrait of Three Women in Tel Aviv
Presented in Hebrew with English subtitles, filmmakers Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen's Jellyfish (Meduzot) weaves together the stories of three women while creating a portrait of modern Israeli life. This poignant, often witty and beautiful 2007 film follows a waitress who takes in an apparently abandoned child at a local beach; a bride who accidentally ruins her chance at a dream Caribbean honeymoon; and a non-Hebrew-speaking domestic worker who has left her son behind in her native Philippines. This unlikely trio separately winds its way through Tel Aviv as each woman struggles with issues of communication, affection and destiny while at times finding an uneasy refuge in its tranquil seas.
