When only men played women on England's theater stages circa 1661, Edward Kynaston reigned supreme as London's most celebrated leading lady. But when actress Margaret Hughes inspires King Charles II to allow actual females to take the stage, the king's own courtesan, Nell Gwynn, and Kynaston's former dresser, Maria, become stars, while Kynaston's career may be cut short -- spurring him down a path of revenge and reinvention. Local playwright Jeffrey Hatcher's hilarious, yet poignant play receives its regional premiere from Walking Shadow Theatre Company, and was also adapted into the film Stage Beauty with Billy Crudup and Claire Danes. Good producation. Some refreshments provided on a donation basis - liked that! It was a completely full house so the venue was a bit cramped.Written on Mar 06 2012

I enjoyed it from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we walked out. The show was extremely enjoyable as it kept my boyfriend and I on the edge of our seats the whole time. The actors are superb! I would not hesitate to attend another play from this group.Written on Mar 06 2012
