Go, go, go Joseph! Before their work on the smash hits Evita and Cats, the British musical team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice created this modern twist on the ancient Biblical tale of Joseph, favorite son of Jacob. Joseph is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. But when they come to Egypt to beg for food, he reveals himself as the brother they betrayed years before. Set to a grab bag of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, the musical features the classic songs "Any Dream Will Do," "Close Every Door" and more. Saddleback Civic Light Opera presents this family-friendly classic.

By the Way, Meet Vera Stark: Sly Satire Skewers Hollywood Racism

Full Price:
$43.00 - $55.00
Our Price:
$21.50 - $27.50

Set in Hollywood over a 70-year period, Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage's pseudo-biographical comedy By the Way, Meet Vera Stark follows the life of a headstrong African-American actress who begins a career in the 1930s, at a time when her only shot at success lay in stealing small scenes in big Hollywood blockbusters. Seventy years later, film buffs reflect on the life and legacy of the controversial star, whose eventual fame and fortune came at the price of perpetuating dangerous stereotypes. Nottage artfully blends comedy and social commentary for a thoroughly entertaining yet thought-provoking picture of the cultural climate that shaped Vera Stark. Clever and illuminating, this show draws on screwball films of the 1930s and uses today's fascination with celebrity and controversy to get to the truth behind the legend, and reflect on who she might have been if she'd lived in a different time. We thought it outstanding. The entire cast was superb. Timothy Fitzsimons was a great lead.

Hadn't seen this musical in ten years and was sooo impressed with how well the performance went. The singing and dancing were tops. Such a wonderful interpretation by the lead Tim Fitzsimons, and the young lady portraying the narrator. And, how could I forget the Elvis-like Pharao. Hard not to include all the performers. Really a great, great deal of talent. Wonderful show!!!

Good vocal performances from the leads. Some issues with microphones, but the conductor was sensitive to that and pulled back the orchestra. Lovely orchestra, set, and costumes. Full house - and a standing "O" tells the tale better than I could.
