Acclaimed choreographer Michael Lowe, an Isadora Duncan Award winner, is known for his vibrant contemporary and cultural works, including Double Happiness. This particular piece, based in classical ballet, pulls from Lowe's background and uses martial arts, tai chi and folk dance to create a stirring new combination of movements. This exciting new Bay Area company will also perform the lively Cirque, which explores the dark and light sides of circus life. Savage Dance Company also contributes several works to the program, and the students of the Menlo Park Academy of Dance will also be featured.

Smuin Ballet 2013 Spring Dance Series: Bouquet

Full Price:
$52.00 - $68.00
Our Price:
$27.50 - $35.50

The Smuin Ballet presents this year's spring series, featuring three diverse works that showcase the company's skill and exemplify the fresh and youthful spirit of spring. From choreographer Helen Pickett, who studied as a dancer under Michael Smuin at the San Francisco Ballet School, comes the West Coast premiere of Petal, an effervescent piece set to music by Philip Glass and Thomas Montgomery Newman, that was called "the perfect piece for spring" by Atlanta Magazine. Darrell Grand Moultrie gives Bay Area audiences their first look at his JAZZIN', a sultry ballet set to jazz music by Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and Andy Razaf. Finally, Michael Smuin's romantic and lovely Chants d'Auvergne is a series of solos, duets, trios and ensemble pieces set to traditional French songs arranged by Joseph Cantaloube. Learn More

Good contemporary dance show (not so much jazz despite the second ensemble's name). Very enjoyable for dance fans and students. I didn't know these groups were local-hope to see them more!
