Nana Projects, the group behind Baltimore's Great Halloween Lantern Parade, comes to Joe's Movement Emporium with a show unlike any other. Dressed in colorful vintage-inspired costumes, puppeteers (aka lanterneers) project images made of plastic and acrylic gels onto a screen with overhead projectors, creating a unique form of puppetry that harkens back to the tricks of Victorian Magic Lantern slide shows. They manipulate the cut-outs gracefully, by hand, using scrolls of plastic, masking illusions and faders, resulting in a fluidity of movement easily mistaken for animation. This show, like all of Nana Projects' work, is aimed at bringing people together in a public space to share an experience and create a sense of community.
