Quotes & Highlights
- Havlik's choreography is "slyly inventive and effervescent ... oscillating between classical formalized dances and disjointed, crowded movements deliberately aimed at flouting the solemn proprieties of traditional dance"--DC Theatre Scene
Description
Nancy Havlik's Dance Performance Group, a small dance/theater company of highly physical performers, described as “wonderfully inspired dance/theater” by the Washington Post, was formed in 1989 to present Nancy Havlik’s choreography. The multi-faceted dances address the human condition, individual struggle for connection, and matters of the heart.
Company members, including Nancy Havlik, engage in a collaborative rehearsal process involving improvisation, writing, exploration of text and visual art to realize the finished work. Composers, designers, musicians, and writers are a vital part of the creative mix.
Nancy Havlik's Dance Performance Group has received grants from the Montgomery County Arts and Humanities Council, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Composers Forum, and the Maryland State Arts Council.
