Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is the most popular of all the Russian composer's work, and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies. The public reaction to Symphony No. 5 was astounding -- upon its premier performance in 1937, it garnered an ovation lasting over half an hour. Influenced by Gustav Mahler, it was written both to placate the Soviet regime, who had loudly voiced their disapproval of Shostakovich's previous work, and for the Russian public as a moving reflection on their suffering under Stalin. Gerard Schwarz conducts the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in this monumental piece, along with Strauss' Violin Concerto led by Concertmaster/violinist Eric Wyrick and Romantic-era composer Goldmark's In Springtime. Green Day's American Idiot recently completed a run in London to rave reviews, the final engagement on a 10-week UK tour that has been met with thunderous acclaim across the country. The show was nominated in December, 2012 as the Best Regional Production in the West End’s What’s On Stage.com Awards and chosen as the No. 1 Show by London Metro. This is the same show and the same cast that will be performing at the State Theatre.
American Idiot contains adult content and strong language, and is strongly recommended for those ages 15 and older.
Please note, this is not a Green Day concert. This is the national tour of the Broadway musical.
The venue's full-service bars are open one hour prior to show time through intermission.
