Legendary jazz saxophonist, Tony-nominated composer and three-time Grammy winner Branford Marsalis joins the acclaimed Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for Well-Tempered, a performance of Baroque masterpieces by such illustrious composers as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Albinoni. Born in New Orleans to one of the most famous families in jazz, Branford attracted attention as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and his brother Wynton's quintet before emerging as a top-flight bandleader in the mid-'80s. He was the musical director of The Tonight Show for two years in the '90s, and has collaborated with musicians ranging from Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins to Sting, the Grateful Dead and Bruce Hornsby. My kids (four kids ranging in age from 10 to 17) and I attended the 2pm Sunday performance at the State Theatre in New Brunswick. The music was great and there was even some audience participation. The seating in the theatre was tight and it was difficult to see the performance behind the heads of so many... sounds funny, but the kids had to reposition themselves to see several times throughout the performance, as did I. So, I enjoyed the performance, but did not care for the theatre in which it took place.
