Raised in Cherry Hill, award-winning violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg returns to her New Jersey home for a special Russian-themed concert co-starring the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. Dubbed a "fiercely original, deeply emotive violinist" by The Washington Post, Salerno-Sonnenberg is famed for her fearlessness and versatility, not to mention her virtuosity. She'll be joined by conductor Pavel Kogen and the MSSO for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Minor. The acclaimed Russian orchestra will also perform the overture to Dvorak's Carnival and Shostakovich's triumphant Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, which premiered to an ecstatic reception in Leningrad in 1937. My kids (four kids ranging in age from 10 to 17) and I attended the 2pm Sunday performance at the State Theatre in New Brunswick. The music was great and there was even some audience participation. The seating in the theatre was tight and it was difficult to see the performance behind the heads of so many... sounds funny, but the kids had to reposition themselves to see several times throughout the performance, as did I. So, I enjoyed the performance, but did not care for the theatre in which it took place.
