Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is the most popular of all the Russian composer's work, and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies. The public reaction to Symphony No. 5 was astounding -- upon its premier performance in 1937, it garnered an ovation lasting over half an hour. Influenced by Gustav Mahler, it was written both to placate the Soviet regime, who had loudly voiced their disapproval of Shostakovich's previous work, and for the Russian public as a moving reflection on their suffering under Stalin. Gerard Schwarz conducts the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in this monumental piece, along with Strauss' Violin Concerto led by Concertmaster/violinist Eric Wyrick and Romantic-era composer Goldmark's In Springtime. Super-goosey-gassy-freaky-outy-turny-onny! As a former "HAiR" cast member - (Rock Talent Productions National Tour 1974-75) I never miss an opportunity to re-live the glorious and wonderful experience that is "HAiR". This production did not disappoint! Fabulous voices, costumes and sets! Smokin' band! The young energetic cast seemed to really have an understanding for the world-changing time that took place long before they were born. Thank you to Goldstar for making this awesome experience so easy and affordable! Peace, Love & "HAiR" forever!
The show contains adult content, including mature language, sexual content and simulated drug use. The performance is recommended for children ages 15 and older.
