Eric Wyrick Plays Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5
$47.00 - $71.00
$23.50 - $35.50*
Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is the most popular of all the Russian composer's work, and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies. The public reaction to Symphony No. 5 was astounding -- upon its premier performance in 1937, it garnered an ovation lasting over half an hour. Influenced by Gustav Mahler, it was written both to placate the Soviet regime, who had loudly voiced their disapproval of Shostakovich's previous work, and for the Russian public as a moving reflection on their suffering under Stalin. Gerard Schwarz conducts the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in this monumental piece, along with Strauss' Violin Concerto led by Concertmaster/violinist Eric Wyrick and Romantic-era composer Goldmark's In Springtime.

There was a parking garage around the corner with plenty of parking spaces for $8 for the evening. Be sure to smuggle your own water in, since the venue will charge you $4 for a bottle of water. When did overcharging to this extent become acceptable?star this tip starred
