Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is the most popular of all the Russian composer's work, and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies. The public reaction to Symphony No. 5 was astounding -- upon its premier performance in 1937, it garnered an ovation lasting over half an hour. Influenced by Gustav Mahler, it was written both to placate the Soviet regime, who had loudly voiced their disapproval of Shostakovich's previous work, and for the Russian public as a moving reflection on their suffering under Stalin. Gerard Schwarz conducts the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in this monumental piece, along with Strauss' Violin Concerto led by Concertmaster/violinist Eric Wyrick and Romantic-era composer Goldmark's In Springtime. For someone "electronically challenged, obtaining the tickets, and pertinent info needed to attend was a simple and easy project. Definitely intend to take advantage of future events. Encountered no problems in this regard or arriving/parking at the theater. Interestingly, there were many youngsters in the audience and yet, no disruption. Amazing! I highly recommend Gold Star and their offered events especially the availability of uncomplicated procedures associated with traveling to urban events.info • Feb 03 2014 star this tip starred

A delightful few hours - talented performers. Affordable and travel from
Succasanna was comfortable. The performance was worth the distance. An affordable events for seniors or anyone on a fixed income. The parking cost was tolerable (almost equal to ticket price!), and the dress casual. The staff was exceptionally pleasant and very welcoming as well as helpful. We look forward to other events offered by this program. Thank you.
