Peter White brings his fun and festive Yuletide show back to B.B. King's. One of the first and greatest smooth jazz guitarists, White has worked extensively with singers Al Stewart ("Year of the Cat"), and is known for his signature mix of jazz, pop and classical -- as well as his two hit holiday releases, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007). He teams with a pair of talented saxophonists -- Mindi Abair and Kirk Whalum, a 2011 Grammy-winner for "Best Gospel Song" -- for this year's cool Yule concert.

Sons of Cream Perform the Songs of Their Fathers at B.B. King's

Full Price:

In the late '60s, Cream became one of rock and roll's biggest supergroups due to the raw talent of Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton. The band left a lasting impression on music and popular culture with songs like "I'm So Glad," "Strange Brew," "White Room," "Sunshine of Your Love" and hit covers of Howlin' Wolf's "Sitting on Top of the World" and Albert King's "Born Under a Bad Sign." Ginger Baker's son Kofi, Jack Bruce's son Malcolm and guitarist Godfrey Townsend formed Sons of Cream to pay homage to both their fathers and one of the greatest rock trios of all time. The tribute act captures the spirit of the Cream era while each member lays down their distinctive stamp on these classic songs. Learn More

This was great show! Peter White, Mindi Abair and Kirk Whalum were terrific! Each one brought a little of their own style and talent. The majority of the show was X-mas themed music in the cool jazz style, and it was fantastic. Each artist contributed some of their own songs (non-X-mas) and Peter White and Kirk Whalum gave a sample of their upcoming duet due out in March on Peter's CD. The show was wonderful!

We would definitely go to this show again and I hope they all come back next Christmas!

We attended the 10:00 show and were not allowed in until 9:30. We were told that the bar was too crowded so we couldn't wait there so we waited outside. Once we were admitted we were seated promptly, and placed drink orders. There is a $10 per person minimum, which is covered with one drink. I was pleasantly suprised by the venue, and the show was terrific. I really like the feel of BB Kings. I think the later show is less crowded which helps a lot. The music was great and the performance was very engaging.

Quotes & Highlights

Description

For nearly two decades, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop, and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience.

Born in 1954 in Luton, a small town north of London, White learned his first chords on an acoustic guitar and had decided by his late teens that music was his calling. Barely a year after his first professional gig, he joined Al Stewart's band as a keyboardist for a 1975 tour and contributed to the album Year of the Cat, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a 20-year association with Stewart. In the '80s, White also contributed to the launch of Polish singer Basia Trzetrzelewska's illustrious career, playing on her 1987 debut album Time and Tide.

After fifteen years as a backup musician and session player, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous. He followed with three albums on the Sindrome label before signing with Columbia for the 1996 release of Caravan of Dreams. He maintained an ambitious release schedule through the `90s (and continues to do so today), but he also found time to appear on recordings by many of his friends, including Dave Koz, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Jeff Golub, Lee Ritenour, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, and many others. He has also established his annual Peter White Christmas Tour, fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007).
