Event Highlights
More Details About This Event: Darkly elegant, psychedelic and sophisticated, Adam & Mia dramatically interpret a wide range of songs from the pop and classical canons. "Underground crooner" Adam Dugas sings and harpist Mia Theodoratus strums and plucks the strings of a concert grand as they attack material by Syd Barrett, Leonard Cohen, Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Irving Berlin and the Baroque art songs of Henry Purcell.
Currently recording an album of their duets, Adam & Mia made their debut as a duo in Shanghai, China at the Glamour Bar and have since performed at the Box, the Gershwin Hotel, CRG gallery, Rose Live Music and other venues. In September their theatrical show, Dueling Harps, a collaboration with performance artist-actress Ann Magnuson and harpist Alex Rannie, debuted at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood. Dueling Harps will be remounted in L.A. at the REDCAT performance space and premiere in New York later in 2008.
Adam Dugas is known for his annual holiday extravaganza, Chaos & Candy, which he has produced in New York for six years. In addition he has produced, directed and performed in Lady Lady Lady, Vernal Hoodoo, The Patriots, and was a co-founder of the Citizens Band cabaret. Special performances include Vanity Fair and Ports 1961 tribute to Sammy Davis, Jr., P.S.1 30th Anniversary gala and Larry Tee's Electroclash music festival. He has appeared at the Box, where he also assembled the house band, as well as at Birdland, Spiegeltent, Joe's Pub, and numerous other venues in New York, Hollywood, Paris and Shanghai.
Mia Theodoratus has played harp for a wide range of projects, from theatre and cabaret to free jazz and classical ensembles. She has accompanied Butch Morris, Baikida Carroll, Rashid Bakr and Lorcan Atway. Past teachers include Susy Allen, Alice Chalifoux, Gloria Agastini and Amiyo Dasgupta. Her favorite projects include Chaos & Candy, National Shakespeare Company production of Oedipus with Avery Brooks, Jason Schmidt opening with Gelatin performance troupe at Deitch Projects, and Butch Morris's New York Skyscraper.
