I GOT TO THE PRODUCTION LATE (12:16 P.M.). THE SHOW STARTED AT EXACTLY 12:15 P.M., SO I SADLY MISSED THE OPENING NUMBER ("AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'"). WHEN I FINALLY WAS ALLOWED IN, I WATCHED THIS MUSICAL WITH THE IDEA THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME DIALOGUE. THIS WAS MY MISTAKE. IN TWO HOURS, I SAT THROUGH TWO HOURS OF SONG AFTER SONG, AND NOT A SHRED OF TALK BETWEEN SONGS. IT SEEMED LIKE I HEARD A THOUSAND SONGS (WHICH, IN FAIRNESS WERE ALL ACTED OUT). FATS WALLER WAS A VERY PROLIFIC SONG WRITER. HIS SONGS RANGED FROM VERY SERIOUS ("BLACK & BLUE") TO FUNNY AS HELL ("YOUR FEETS TOO BIG"), AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN BETWEEN. THE CAST DID MOST OF HIS SONGS JUSTICE, BUT A FEW MEMBERS DID NOT QUITE HAVE MR WALLER'S VOCAL RANGE, WHICH IS UNFORTUNATE. BUT, I'M ASSUMING THAT MOST PEOPLE WALKED OUT OF THE THEATRE WITH ONE OF FATS' SONGS IN THEIR HEARTS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY...IN THEIR SOULS! AS FATS WALLER WOULD SAY: "ONE NEVER KNOWS...DO ONE?"Written on Sep 13 2008

Although I didn't realize before going that it was merely a musical rendition, it was still very much enjoyed. Even my 10 year old enjoyed it. Now, I want to see the full version of the play.Written on Jul 21 2008
