Elevating the world of children's music, Elizabeth Mitchell brings a folk musician's love of homespun storytelling to her unique brand of gentle, heartfelt music. Mitchell is joined by a roster of special guests, including Natalie Merchant ("Wonder," "Kind and Generous"), for a concert blending holiday songs off her new album, The Sounding Joy, with longtime audience favorites, a songbook that includes renditions of classic songs by Woody Guthrie, Bob Marley, The Velvet Underground and Gillian Welch. It was a reading at Symphony Space of several short stories selected by Richard Prince, who was NOT in attendance (though it never was advertised that he would be). And then there was a small reception and private viewing of his work on the other side of Central Park at the Guggenheim. It was well organized and well attended. The mix of people veered towards the old than the young. It was more of a Symphony Space crowd than a Guggenheim one.
Co-presented with The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
