Tribes follows Billy, a deaf man raised inside the fiercely idiosyncratic and unrepentantly politically incorrect cocoon of his home of his parents' house. He has adapted brilliantly to his hearing family's unconventional ways, but they've never bothered to return the favor, leaving Billy isolated and alone. It's not until he meets Sylvia, a young woman on the brink of deafness, that he finally understands what it feels like to be understood. The play premiered at London's Royal Court in 2010 with a sold-out run garnering rave reviews and numerous honors, including both Olivier Award and Evening Standard Award nominations for Best Play. It wasn't as funny as its reviews proclaimed..actually it was kind of boring. The singing was mediocre and acting even worse. I liked the idea of improvising that's what made me interested in this show, however the cast picked a really dumb title from the audience sitting in the very front and the show just didn't make much sense after that. Even for the cheap price of tickets it wasn't really worth it.Written on Dec 01 2009
