The Harlem Gospel Choir, the most famous gospel choir in America and one of the preeminent gospel choirs worldwide, brings the music of Harlem and the black church to Times Square in a joyous celebration of high-energy, hand-clapping singing and dancing. Made up of the finest singers and musicians from Harlem's black churches and the New York/Tri-State area, the choir strives to create a better understanding of African-American culture and make the world a more loving and peaceful place. Allen Bailey was inspired to create the choir in 1986 after attending a celebration at Harlem's Cotton Club in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That inspiration can be felt in the music today, as the choir's uplifting songs of hope touch the soul and raise the spirit. Beatlestock never fails to deliver the goods. The singing and musicianship are top notch. Best part is the band has mastered the art of audience participation. Love it that everyone sings along and dances in the aisles. The vibe is all positive and it is the best escape from the rat race that NY has to offer.Written on Jun 20 2009

Description
Beatlestock is a seven member Beatles tribute band that doesn’t wear make-up or costumes. Instead, they focus on the singing, sound, and ‘feel’ of The Beatles records and performances. Beatlestock is led by it’s founder, Larry Russell, who launched Billy Joel’s solo career back in the early 70’s as his bass player. Larry toured with the Grammy Award winning musical, Godspell--racking up over 1000 performances. He has also toured with Elliott Murphy, The Mamas and the Papas, Gary US Bonds, Denny Laine (of Wings) and Mary Wilson (of The Supremes).
Beatlestock is also very proud to now have in the band, Broadway’s ‘Beatlemania‘ original cast member Joe Pecorino, who sings amazingly like ‘Paul McCartney’, plays the keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, exactly and accordingly to the Beatle’s records. We also feature lead guitarist/lead vocalist John Merjave, who performs at all the ‘Fest for Beatles Fans’ conventions. John is an amazing addition as well. And the fab-u-lous lead singer/guitarist George Stass (Larry’s V.P. of Beatlestock) covers all of the ‘John Lennon’ songs. George’s vocal is very naturally reminiscent of John Lennon’s. With Tom Devito on drums and Bill Malchow on keyboards, and a ‘percussionist du jour’, you won’t miss one Beatle song detail!
Performing at Central Park’s Strawberry Fields for passerbys from around the world, Larry Russell was inspired to seek greener pastures where we could all enjoy singing to that catalog ('stock') of the most popular songs ever created. Larry Russell’d-up some great players, and with the warm support of Beatle song lovers (some of who attended these Central Park shows) he created the Beatle Sing Along called "Beatlestock". So, whether you’re a fan, a casual listener or maybe even 'new' to The Beatles’ music, you’d be surprised at the energy you will make and take with you, from these sing-along events!
