The USO was founded in Times Square on February 4th, 1941 in response to a request from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The USO provides a host of programs and services that promote the morale and welfare of our troops and their families — from entertainment to family support services to personal emergency assistance and more. The USO of Metropolitan New York operates two service centers in the New York City area, which offer a ‘home away from home’ for U.S. military personnel and their families.
