I attended this event with my grandchildren and my oldest enjoyed it. My 9 year old grandson got bored after a while. I enjoyed the interaction with my granddaughter. We were both fascinated about the stage of the fetal birth. We also got to see how your body looks when it deteriorates from various diseases.

absolutely amazing!! although a bit creepy....2 hours isn't enough time to go thoroughly thru the exhibit. The visuals stay with you for quite some time....hard to beleive that they are actual human beings.
    Great science trip for kids.

This was an informative and educational exhibition about our bodies. While I was squeamish in the beginning, I concluded the 2 hours with a better understanding of my body, its functions and how best to care for it.

Even though I knew what to expect, it was a tad nauseating at first, and took some getting used to. But after that, it becomes an amazing, eye-opening experience. I came out of it encouraged to live healthier, pay more attention to my body...and possibly not eat meat for a little while. (Seriously, all that exposed muscle tissue gets to you.)

Also, the fetal-development room was not as disturbing as I was led to believe, but if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, they give you the option of skipping that room altogether.

I took my 14 year old niece and her friend and found the exhibit very informative without getting overly technical for non medical people. Was very impressed by the preservation of the body parts and the dissection presentation. The atmosphere was calm, cool and comfortable for walking through.

I've got to go again! The South St Seaport is gorgeous and the exhibition is amazing. It makes you sad and a little anxious, but I love how close you can get to these bodies.

The audio tour is nice if you're in a rush, but give yourself a full day and learn a thing or two :D

The Bodies Exhibition is quite amazing. I saw the exhibition for the first time in 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and had a very delightful experience. This time around, in New York, however, I was a bit disappointed. Many of the exhibits seemed to have been omitted, and another minor tidbit, I became annoyed at the harassment received by one of the workers, who proceeded to berate me because I was muting the ringer on my cellphone. I had to argue with this man that I was not using the phone, nor was I conducting a conversation on it, but simply taking it off, in order to be in compliance with the rules! How rude. All in all, it could have been better, and the experience this time around was considered fair..

Extremely interesting and informative. May be noisy due to students, but I loved the fact that they were there and learning about the human body. You can go ahead of them if necessary. Also you can go online and read about the process used on the bodies.

Exhibit is 5 minutes from the subway.

This is a must for students and health professionals..and even if you haven't studied anatomy and physiology before, this exhibition shoud wet your appetite. From a human interest point of view, note what happens to your body in various disease states and see the fetus as it develops. Oh,..and if you are an artist there will be special evening sessions for sketching.

This was the most fabulous and interesting event I've eveer attended. It was NOT gory. Most people spend 1-1/2 hours; I spent 2-1/2. It was fascinating. I would like to take my grandchild, but think, at 10, he's a little young. There's a lot of reading involved if you want to get everything you can from the exhibit. Rate this a 10.

My eight year old daughter and I attended the exhibition. She thought it was cool and I enjoyed it. If you are sensitive to certain things...it is easy to avoid the more graphic exhibits... I had a hard time with the diseased parts of our body. We went through the entire exhibition in under one hour... If you want to do the audio tour...I am sure you could get a lot more out of it.

The event was fantastic! My Aunt didn't like the event too much due to her stomach reaction when seeing the real life bodies. She sat on the benches while I contiuned exploring and educating myself on the bodies. I use to disect many animals and insects in college, so it never bothered me. I learned so much about my body and other types of bodies. I felt sad for other bodies that were diseased and corrupted, though those bodies were put to good use to teach others how they should treat their bodies so they won't end up the same way.

Fascinating exhibit. Only wish they had labeled the internal organs on the standing figures as I'm always confused by the relationships of spleen to kidney to gall bladder, etc. Wonder if all the MDs out there knew of everything we learned on this visit?

I went to this event with my boyfriend, my best friend, her boyfriend, and her son. We had a great time and it was interesting looking at these bodies. I highly recommend it to anyone who is really interested in learning about the human body. I would definitely go again because it was a learning experience to know how our bodies work and how to maintain it healthy. I will admit the hardest part for me was looking at the fetal development exhibit and learning about breast cancer.

Once again, I recommend everyone to go and the price for what I paid for was worth it.

It was much nicer than I anticipated. Well organized and with each room I walked into, I was more excited. It was truly fascinated to see our human bodies shown this way. I definately pick up new information. The only disappointment was the public bathroom. For an exhibit promoting health and well being, the bathrooms were very untidy. The rest of the space is well kept. I am definately recommend this event to my friends.

I took two 8 year old children who would be considered by most as "Gifted." They said that they could have learned everything viewed at the exhibit in school. They didn't get much from it. Probably a guided tour and some interactivity would have been interesting for this age group. I also felt that my money could have been better spent at the Planetarium.

Interesting exhibition. Though my stomach turned a bit at the beginning, it was interesting to see the various states of the human body, including diseased body parts. Intersting to see how personal ailments actually look like in real life. I have a clearer picture how the body functions. The reproductive organs, though we all know about them, were particularly compelling to see in real life.

Interesting exhibit for most people. I think it could be even more so for people already familiar with anatomy or studying it by including more labels. Only the more obvious muscles are labeled. I understand that might make it more unwieldy but it would greatly expand the utility for advanced students. Seeing the body parts in 3D is a great experience one rarely has while studying anatomy, short of taking a cadaver class. There is quite a number of explanatory texts and I feel there could be even more, though I see they have made an exhibit which can be consumed in one visit.

There are only a very few benches to rest during a trip thru the exhibit; there need to be more.
Also, the book store is placed at the end of the exhibit but is also accessible from the entrance area, but one is not allowed to go into it before entering the exhibit itself and walking to the end of it. This is to prevent ppl from just entering the exhibit from the store. Bad planning!

More Information

Website: http://www.bodiesny.com/

BODIES...The Exhibition opened a 30,000-square-foot exhibition on November 19, 2005 and has been extended indefinitely in New York City. This exhibition showcases 20 whole-body specimens and more than 200 organs and partially body specimens that gives visitors the opportunity to see their own bodies in a fascinating way they never have before. These meticulously dissected whole-body specimens are featured to show the visitors exactly “what lies beneath’ and the complex systems involved in the activities that are a part of daily life.

This exhibition features a gallery showcasing the eye-opening effects of obesity on the human body through authentic human bodies of those who damaged their organs due to over-eating and lack of exercise. The exhibition also features a healthy lung and a black lung ravaged by smoking side by side in a vivid comparison that is undeniable – and more powerful than any textbook image.

In addition to providing an up-close look inside our skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems, the exhibition encourages healthy lifestyle choices by serving as a wake-up call that demonstrates how our own choices directly affect our health. The exhibition will change the way people see themselves. It is designed to enlighten, empower, fascinate, and inspire.

The human body specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a revolutionary technique called polymer preservation. In this process, a human specimen is first preserved according to standard mortuary science. The specimen is then dissected to show whatever it is that someone wants to display.  Once dissected, the specimen is immersed in acetone, which eliminates all body water. The specimen is then placed in a large bath of silicone, or polymer, and sealed in a vacuum chamber. Under vacuum, acetone leaves the body in the form of gas and the polymer replaces it, entering each cell and body tissue. A catalyst is then applied to the specimen, hardening it and completing the process. This method of preservation creates a specimen that will not decay. This offers thousands of unique teaching possibilities for educators at all levels, including medical professionals, archaeologists and other scientists.

Premier cannot independently verify the provenance of the human remains in this exhibit.
