As a former protégé of legendary bluesman Albert "The Iceman" Collins in the mid-1970s, Coco Montoya first honed his chops as a drummer. He spent the next four decades tirelessly hitting the blues-rock circuit -- first backing Collins, then eventually adopting guitar and playing with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. In recent years, he's transformed into a bandleader in his own right. His soul crooning and string-bending flare are accented by his signature left-handed, upside-down playing style, which calls to mind Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Albert King.
