Although this event promotes, in my opinion, a list of reasons why it didn't live up to the full potential it should have been, one major flaw stopped this event from being amazing. The Village Pourhouse's idea of "all you can eat" crawfish, did not exactly match the ideas of 98% of the attending patrons. 45 minute gaps between crawfish servings were not uncommon, coupled with the fact that each crawfish platter was served with an average of 3 individual servings, made for an unpleasant and sometimes "mad rush" to the buffet table for the 25+ people in attendance. When asked about the ETA for the next round, after the first four people in the 20 person line grabbed the only available crawfish, the wait staff informed all of us that "we are working on making some more, so it should be about 30 minutes". Now, this could be contrived by some as a petty complaint, but I feel that a venue promoting "all you can eat crawfish", should at least plan to put out enough crawfish in the first hour so it looks like the all you can eat promise may actually be believable. Yes, people were there for the entertainment, which happened to be entertaining, so no complaints. People were also there for the two hours of all you can drink Bud and Budlight, which, the Village Pourhouse did a great job making sure our beer glass never went empty, so again, no complaints. The crawfish however, happened to outweigh the importance of the previous two, based on the fact that all you can eat crawfish, are a lot harder to find in the city. All in all, the event was fun and entertaining. Next time, I would hope that the kitchen puts out more crawfish in the front end, so more time can be spent sitting and watching the show versus standing in the back of the bar waiting for more food to come out.

Description

The free Bud Light Draft (and optional all-you-can eat crawfish, southern chicken sliders, potato salad, corn-on-the-cob) is from 1:00pm-3:00pm, followed by an afternoon of some of the funniest comedians in New York City who hail from New Orleans.

Mark Normand was born in New Orleans where he was exposed early to the odd side of life.  He enrolled in the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts at the age of 13 and went on to attend the New York Film Academy and graduated in Drama and Communications from the University of New Orleans before moving to New York City to take up comedy full time.  Normand specializes in observational comedy, drawing upon his neurotic extended family, the everyday cliché and childhood experiences as fertile subjects.  In 2008, Normand was nominated for a ECNY Award (Best Emerging Comic), was featured in Time Out New York’s ‘Joke of the week' and performed at the New Orleans Comedy Festival, the DC Comedy Festival.  Normand was featured and parodied by the infamous magazine Mad Magazine after a magazine staffer witnessed a standout performance in a New York City bar. Eager to bring his comedy to an audience outside of clubs and stand-up, he launched the highly popular webseries, Think Tank and the website watchthinktank.com where loyal fans go every week to see Normand and creative partner, Matt Ruby, break down simple topics into hilarity.  With a keen interest in what makes the comic behind the comedy, Normand hosts the interview type podcast Jumping for Joy and the live onstage roundtable, We are all Friends Here, both of which have garnered loyal followings in the comedy community. Mark Normand lives and performs in New York City.

Sean Patton
was born in Slidell, Louisiana and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. Everything in between has been turned into material.

Murderfist is the premier light-flavored, full-bodied, underground comedy group for the upper crust comedy bigwigs of New York City. Murderfist has showcased it’s biscuits at Caroline’s on Broadway, The Laugh Factory, The PIT, Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and featured  at the FringeNYC 2008 with “All Hail The Great Serpent!” Most recently they were awarded the 2009 ECNY award for Best Sketch Comedy Group and appeared as an official selection of SketchFest NYC 2010.

Hosted by Ed Larson and Ben Kissel.
