London's National Theatre is broadcasting its original stage production of King Lear, and you can catch a live screening of the show at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Symphony Space. Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens) in the title role of Shakespeare's epic tragedy. Regarded as among Shakespeare's greatest plays, King Lear depicts an aging monarch's descent into madness as his family and country are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his children. This sweeping legend depicts the devastating consequences of pride, as King Lear's hubris and his daughters' ambitions destroy not just their own family, but an entire nation as well. Learn More

It was one of the worst concerts I've ever seen. Something like a cross between a Catskill Mtns. casino event and Amateur Night at the Apollo. The production itself was amateurish, the band wasn't particularly good, the costumes were god awful. There was one excellent, very talented singer, not an original Shirelle, who could really belt songs out, but I hadn't gone there for that. The house was maybe 25% filled, and even at half off, the tickets were overpriced; it should've been a free event, at most. And there was a lot of hokey, tired, audience-coming-up-on-stage type stuff, including Ms. Lee's fellow church members singing gospel songs. I have nothing against that, but it just wasn't right for an event you paid decent money for. I kept trying to find something to give the evening points for, but really couldn't. I overheard other people expressing that they felt ripped off because they expected a better quality event because of the venue, Symphony Space, which is a very well respected house; evidentally their space was rented out for this event, and they had nothing to do with it.

We really enjoyed this show. The venue was so convenient and comfortable. The Shirelles were wonderful. Their performance was very eclectic, with their old hits, some Etta James and some gospel music in the mix. We had a very enjoyable evening.
