Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow rises again, now transformed into a spooky new musical by Michael Sgouros and Brenda Bell. Set in 1790, this enduring piece of Americana tells the story of a romantic rivalry between skinny schoolteacher Ichabod Crane and town rowdy Brom Van Brunt over a wealthy farmer's daughter. Alas, Crane soon comes face-to-missing-face with the Headless Horseman, believed to be the ghost of a Revolutionary War soldier, and then mysteriously disappears.

Women's Work: Concert Series Salutes Female Composers

Full Price:
$20.00
Our Price:
$10.00

This spring-long series of concerts stars three of the region's most impressive classical ensembles, who'll shine a spotlight on the great works of women composers. New York's premier viol consort, Parthenia, gets things off to a fascinating start by combining electronics, vocals and their ancient instruments for a performance of contemporary classical music. Next up is Quintet of the Americas from Queens. This acclaimed woodwind ensemble is set to focus on new pieces by North and South American women, including Kate Neal, Magda Santos and Beata Moon. Finally, Canta Libre Chamber Ensemble highlights compositions for flute, harp and strings, which includes their own commission, February Swale, by Beth Anderson. Please see the full event description for more info on the composers and musicians. Learn More

OK for an off-off Broadway musical. Pleasant enough way to spend an early Saturday evening, especially for the price. Suitable for children maybe 8+ who are not very easily frightened.

I liked the music but the play itself felt very unoriginal, a not scary retelling of the same familiar old Legend of Sleepy Hollow story, without a horse, and without a scary headless horseman. It was ok for a comp ticket for something to do for a few hours.
