For the first time ever, Orange Is the New Black star and transgender activist Laverne Cox will take the stage with her brother, artist M. Lamar, for an in-depth conversation about the twin siblings' lives and careers. One of the most well-known transgender women in the country, Cox has appeared on the cover of Time magazine and garnered an Emmy nomination for her work on Orange. Her twin brother, an accomplished artist, played Cox's character pre-transition on Orange. Together, the pair will discuss their youth in Alabama, their family, careers and more. Learn More

I was at first a little put off by the fact that the event was high up (I took the stairs, not thinking to look for an elevator!) and in a small room with a capacity of 60 (about 50 in attendance), the projector in the middle of the room and a 6' X 10' screen (approximately). I was expecting a more formal venue like a movie theater - if small. None of that mattered once the movie started. It was great and I recommend it to everyone. The film referenced a lot of different phenomena and people which I jotted down to look up/google later. Shaydac definitely had a life-altering experience and in sharing his journey helps to get those of us watching to be open to change in our own lives. I'm grateful to the NY Society for Ethical Culture and Goldstar for making the film available this way, but it should receive a wider audience. It is available on DVD and maybe through Netflix or a similar provider. Once you see it you'll want to share it, so I recommend buying a copy!
