I loved seeing Jim Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and it was great to see the music played both with a trio and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The seats were amazing as well!

Th show was excellent! The only downside was the Rose Hall staff working the doors. They were talking and patrolling the aisles throughout the performance which was very distracting. Also, we were offended by their insulting and confrontational comments about the patrons who were supposedly taking non-flash photos of the performers. I'm not really sure what damage you can do with a picture of Bill Charlap, but it was treated like a matter of national security. I looked at my cell phone to check the time and immediately had someone hovering over my shoulder. Great venue, but would be reluctant to go back unless I was guaranteed to be seated away from the doors or ushers. Very annoying!

I was very pleased to attend and the seat and hall were excellent. All the musicians were outstanding as I knew they would be. Jim Hall was particularly moving. I was somewhat disappointed however that there were so much big band and not as much introspective solo piano as I had expected.

Description

One of the most influential pianists of modern jazz, Bill Evans' lyrical style has inspired generations of musicians. Pianist Bill Charlap shows what made Bill Evans great by playing his classic compositions ('Waltz For Debby') with his great collaborators, like legendary guitarist Jim Hall. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will be on hand to play big band arrangements of Bill Evans' best-loved works.

An hour before the concert, join JLCO saxophonist and arranger of selections from the evening’s concert, Ted Nash, and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Ken Druker in a conversation about Bill Evans.
