Marianne engages the audience from the minute she steps on stage. Although I was unfamiliar with some of the songs, it didn't matter. Her voice was magnificent. Her patter was comedic at times and very down to earth. The venue offered hummus in a paper napkin lined basket with pita this time in addition to their usual desserts. The pita was not heated which would have been a nice touch. As a safety note, the candle on the small table should be removed since the paper can catch fire.Written on Oct 13 2008

Description
Winner of a 2008 Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist and featured on the cover of the July/August Cabaret Scenes magazine, Marianne Challis is a “must-see” for this cabaret season. She returns to the Metropolitan Room with her new show, What Will the Neighbors Say? … a fun-filled exploration of the challenges of the baby-boomer generation – stamped with her own brand of satirical story-telling and “off-the-cuff eye for the absurd.”
Teamed with her long-time arranger, Christopher Marlowe, Marianne performs songs of contemporary writers such as Alan Menken, Joni Mitchell, and Christine Lavin, as well as classic American Songbook favorites by Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and the great Johnny Mercer. Directed by two-time MAC Award winner, Scott Barnes, an evening with Marianne Challis is as tuneful as it is hilarious, and as wackily fun as it is emotionally satisfying. Critic Peter Leavy calls this show “top-drawer cabaret … when Marianne Challis is performing nearby - run, don’t walk.”
