Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall, American Beauty) returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale (Timon of Athens) in the title role of Shakespeare's epic tragedy. Regarded as among Shakespeare's greatest plays, King Lear depicts an aging monarch's descent into madness as his family and country are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his children. National Dance Institute’s Celebration Team returns to Symphony Space with an exhilarating performance of dance for audiences of all ages. Dancers ages 8-15 from NDI’s advanced programs present excerpts of the acclaimed 2008 Event of the Year, Volando a Mexico, as well as highlights from NDI’s Celebration of Literature series and a preview of the 2008/2009 season celebrating the life and music of John Lennon.
