This was such a fabulous experience! I'm a local of NYC and I *love* to be on the water, so when I saw that there was an opportunity to participate in a regatta race I was thrilled! Captain Peter, Tom, and the rest of the crew were *so* good to us. The weather was perfect, the included lunch was delicious, and it was wonderful to be sailing with a glass of champagne (or three!) on my birthday! I couldn't have asked for a better time. I'll definitely bring my out of town friends on the 'regular' sail, and I'm tempted to just go myself whenever the mood strikes!

What an incredible experience - being part of a regatta!! Something we usually only get to see on television. We purchased the tickets thinking we'd be spectators and never dreamed we would be in the race. It was exhilirating! The captain and crew were gracious and accomodating and even found time to serve drinks and lunch while they were sailing the schooner. I can't say enough good things about this experience.

More Details About This Event:

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to sail as a guest aboard the Adirondack as she participates in a classic regatta! Enjoy a lunch of fruit, gourmet sandwiches, chips, and dessert as the Adirondack's highly experienced racing crew and captains compete in the New York Classic Week races.

The participants in this race are all classic sailing vessels of varying size and sail plans, so expect to see other schooners, sloops, ketches, and fifes from the turn-of-the-century vying for marks across the New York Harbor. The stunning bright work and beautiful classic lines of these historic vessels have been specially maintained by their owners and offer great photo opportunities!

Some of the famous sites you'll view along the way are:
  • The New York City skyline
  • Twenty-acre Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, where artillery has been stationed over the centuries
  • Ellis Island, the immigrant doorway to America from 1892 to 1954
  • The Statue of Liberty, a French gift that arrived in New York Harbor in 1885 and has come to represent our nation's freedom and ideals

Complimentary champagne, wine, beer and soda will be provided. (Note: A few rounds will be served, but this is not an unlimited "booze cruise." The intention is to create an elegant, relaxing, peaceful, and safe experience for all guests.)

Join in this New York Classic Week race aboard the Adirondack, and you'll experience NYC like never before.

New York Classic Week
Classic yacht racing is experiencing a renaissance led in part by grand new regattas in the Mediterranean. New York Harbor is experiencing a renaissance led in part by Dennis Conner’s North Cove. To share the beauty of classic sailing with more people, all classic yachts are encouraged to come to Manhattan.

This regatta is run by sailors for sailors. The spirit of the regatta is to build camaraderie among sailors who enjoy the spirit of classic racing. It is also to thank the owners and sailors who support classic sailing and preserve these historic vessels. At the same time, an eye will be kept on the seawall in the hope of inspiring new people to develop a passion for sailing and classic yachting.
