Hey guys
So I took the 12:30 cruise. It was a picture perfect day. I would advise to bring a sweater as it does get windy. Full bar aboard as well.Bud Lights run about $5.50. All the guys on crew were very friendly. The captain you'll recognize immediately as he looks like Santa. No really. If Santa had a summer job, this would be it. There's plenty of seats but during most of the cruise hardly anyone was sitting, most roamed about taking pictures. They play music on the boat too. The bartender/DJ (LOL) played Bob marley which really set the tone I think. It was pretty awesome, even for a jaded native like myself.Would do it again in a heartbeat. No better way to spend a sunny afternoon then sailing, drinking ice cold beer, and listening to some Marley. Might wanna take some dollar bills along as they 'suggest' at the end that you tip the crew for their afforts. That's about it guys.Enjoy!

We took the 7 pm cruise in mid August. As we sailed, the sun set behind the Statue of Liberty and the harbor seas were calm with a gentle roll to them. The ship was much larger and longer than I thought it would be, but there were just the right number of people to fill the deck by the time we cast off. The weather was ideal, and I didn't need the jacket I brought. The skylines of New Jersey and Manhattan once night fell, were breathtaking from the deck of the Clipper City, and the Statue of Liberty was beyond words. It just really grabbed me, as did the sights and sounds of everything as we slowly sailed out and around governor’s island and then back into port. The waves were just enough to let us know that we were sailing, but nothing to worry about. We ate dinner before going on, and that seemed to do the trick. It is a really interesting sensation to stand on deck while the ship sailed through the early night.
From start to finish, the Captain and crew were great. They were a solid group, and both the crew members and the Captain were at the top of their game as they sailed the ship. I envied the crew's jobs as I had worked one summer on the Grand Canyon on a river running boat and could see the same focused and skilled teamwork on the Clipper City, and felt my friends, their children and I were in safe hands.
In closing, let me say It was one of our best experiences of our trip to New York City. It was the perfect way to top off a busy day, and I look forward to doing it all again the next time I am in town. I saw families, young couples, groups of friends all having the time of their lives, enjoying the ship, the skylines while touching the spirit of sailing, and traditions that reached back into the centuries.
Everyone that I took on the Clipper City that night in August was amazed at how much fun they had, and how cool it was. If you have even the smallest interest or curiosity, I would recommend you do it and take your friends and family. You will have a really cool time.

It was a very relaxing trip, the ship was slow. Not recommended for tourists because it only goes to the statue of liberty, you don't get much view of manhattan. For those who just want to relax on a nice day, it's a good choice.

The boat ride was wonderful and the staff was friendly. We were at sail for a ful 90 minutes and the ship was clean and well maintained. I would have liked it better if there was a tour guide who told you what you were looking at in the harbor.

I went when it was cloudy and it was still as nice and fun (and cold!) as everyone else has reported. The bar has a modest list of offerings and there is no food sold on board. I saw someone eating a little snack over her lap that she brought herself. There are no tables but there are places to sit down.
As we were underway, they asked for volunteers to help raise one of the sails. You don't have to, obviously, but they were very impressed and grateful when I stepped up. They said they always ask but I think I was the first to take them up on it. Be advised that raising a sail is VERY aerobic!
Because the weather was iffy the day before with forecasts for more of the same on the day I was to go, I called their office, 212.619.0907, and the woman who answered was extremely helpful. She offered to call me when they knew if they were sailing or not and she did!
The crew and captain were open and accessible and liked talking about their ship and sailing in general.
If you like boats or being anywhere near or on the water, this is a terrific fix.

I took my sister, brother in law and their kids (11 and 13) on the cruise and we loved it. The boat is rustic and the crew were nice. The bathroom was not working the day we went out so make sure to check before you go on. There is a bar that accepts credit cards and offers beer, wine and sodas. If you are going on a sunny day, take sun block as there is no shade to be had.

The sail around the city was an absolutely wonderful time! I highly recommend this event for everybody that wants to just relax and take in some must needed fresh air! The boat sails to the Lady and back. For those that help pull the sail a free drink of their choise if available at the fully stocked bar.

I thought it was ok. I was hoping for something a little more exciting. It took about a half hour for us to actually get out of the port then we did a quick loop in front of the Statue of Liberty and came back. The boat is nice, but we ended up having to stand because there wasn't enough seating. I recommend getting there more than 15 minutes before if you want a seat.

it was awesome!! and it had a bar, what more can u ask for? crew was super super nice! we went on a really hot summer day and thankful i had sunscreen. great for pictures... but if u want to see more of the city skyline, you may want to consider other boat tours. this went to the statue of liberty and back. there were places to sit with the amount of people on our trip, not sure how it would be with a packed boat. and you can bring food. saw all ages on the boat. best part was getting it almost half off from goldstar.com =).

This was a great relaxing way to see some of the sights of New York. We got an up close and personal view of the Statue of liberty while getting a breathtaking view of the New York skyline. We sailed past the Brooklyn Bridge and around Governors
Island. The crew was very nice and informative. Passengers are even encouraged to help put up the sails.
Those that partake, get a free drink.
You can bring on your own food, but drinks are bought on board.

A friend was in town for the weekend and every time she comes she talks about how much she would love to go on a boat. I've been on a few boats cruises around the city and didn't want to go on them again. When I saw that this was a sailboat, that it departed from South Street Seaport and there was a bar I was sold. The boat was awesome and the bar was fully stocked. The service was great and the crew got some of the passengers invulved in pulling up the sails to get a free beer. It seemed like there were even a few non-tourists on this cruise!I will do this again as soon as I have the chance. It was more than worth the time and money. BEAUTIFUL!

I bought 19,50 $ (+5,50 $ fee) tickets trough goldstar.com for a 1,5 h sailing on Clipper City, a big old clipper The same tickets were sold at the pier for 39 $. We have previously been on Circleline cruise, taken Staten Island ferry and few days later took also water taxi to Red Hook, but this was a really great, relaxing way to see Downtown from sea, go round Governor’s Island and see Statue of Liberty. Many great photo opportunities and the clipper itself is very handsome.
It was a warm, beautiful night and we enjoyed ourselves. DH even offered to help the crew to hoist the sails and received a free beer for his help.
One of the highlights of our entire trip.

My 15 year old niece is visiting from France for a couple of weeks. First time in the US and obviously 1st time in NYC! I took her all around town in the past few days and thought a boat ride on the Clipper City would allow her to see the city from a different angle. She loved it! I have to admit it was a very nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of midtown. We took the 12:30pm ride last Friday 7/10; the weather was gorgeous, the crew very friendly and the views of downtown and the Statue of Liberty amazing! All in all it was a very enjoyable and relaxing ride even though you should know it only goes from Pier 17 to the Statue of Liberty and back.

We had a great time, the weather was beautiful, the ship inspiring and the crew were super nice!
As luck would have it the ship was filled with pirates (someone was having a themed birthday party) which added to the fun!
There wasn't any food, but plenty of drinks and good prices.
We would definitely do this again, although it would be great to be able to go out further, so we can experience the ship at full sail.

There was a birthday party aboard that delayed departure and prevented all the sales from being raised. Weather was wonderful, view of Statue of Liberty equally wonderful, Captain was pleasant and that made the cruise a delight.

Great captain and crew on a beautiful evening.
The only downside was that there was a "fund raiser" with 50 people on the ship before we sailed and we were not allowed to board until 7.
We wished we could have known that before we booked. The ship had 130 people on it and it didn't feel crowded but 50 fewer people would have made it more intimate.

I planned this cruise for family I had visiting during the 4th of July weekend! We had a wonderful time. The best part is just being out on the water and listening to the waves crash against the boat. It was a beautiful day and I found that i didn't need a coat/jacket at all. The cruise is not narrated but the crew was very helpful if you had questions about what you were looking at. We cruised from the seaport around the Statue of Liberty and back. We went on the 4th of July 3:00 cruise and the boat was not overcrowded even during the holiday. Our party of 5 all had seating if we wanted. My guest truly enjoyed the trip I would definitely do it again...probably for a longer time. I found that although I don't get motion sickness that before boarding just looking at the boat made me a little woozy...so bring Dramamine if you need it...the crew does not provide/sell it. The bathrooms were very clean and cute and in full working order. Also drinks aboard the ship were reasonable I got a Cosmo for about $6. I found parking that was pretty cheap $12 full day on a Saturday we walked about 5 mins there..I believe it was on Front Street. So thats much better than the $30 at the Seaport. Also this was my first time going to the Seaport and there were not signs (at least that I saw) telling you where the boat was on Pier 17. Just stay outside and walk to your right when you see the door to enter the mall and it will be straight ahead of you.

There were a few too many people: as it was rainy there was not enough places for people to sit. Plus it too about 25 minutes to dock - I think we had unusually strong currents because of the rain. Otherwise everything was perfect, the staff very friendly and a lovely relaxing experience.

For the money, it was a decent 90 minute excursion. I would recommend going on a date or with some friends that you can talk to. Those 90 mins are long if you are out there alone or with someone you really do not want to date long term. Again - for the money, it was a nice, relaxing cruise around the harbor.

I wish I could tell you that I had a great experience with Clipper City, but they canceled the trip on us at the last minute because they didn't have enough passengers.
Goldstar was great and gave me a refund before I could even ask for it, but beware of Clipper City. I would warn all other Goldstar members to seriously think twice before buying tickets for a weekday cruise, because Clipper City apparently thinks that it's perfectly OK to cancel on you if the numbers aren't to their liking. And you'll have just wasted your time instead of trying to find a seat on one of the more reliably run boats in the area.

This was part of a Mother's Day gift for my mom and aunt. They still live in New York, while I moved to L.A. more than 30 years ago. I still try to find things for them to do, and Goldstar has been a great help in this endeavor. This was, I think, their 3rd boat trip acquired through Goldstar. The first two were from a pier on the West Side. Both of those were great, but they espcially loved the size and scope of this Clipper ship. They were impressed by the crew, the weather was great, and they arrived early enough to have a leisurely breakfast at the seaport. Thanks again. Goldstar always comes through with flying colors, as you can see from the number of events I've booked through you in the past few years. Randy

I enjoyed it, nice staff, good sail great views BUT the boat does not put up all it's sails like in the photo... I don't even think it has more than the 3 bottom ones(and only put up 2). It's a bit odd that they didn't put in seats for the guests (there is some seating in the middle and a few crates to sit on but I think if it was crowded on the weekend not everyone could have a seat...) for what you are paying you need that. Seems like they are just getting started though, I'm sure they will figure these things out!

We had a wonderful time! A beautiful sail, a terrific crew, not crowded and, thankfully, no loudspeaker commentary - it was easy enough to ask a crew member questions if needed. Mostly, it was just a lovely way to relax and spend some time on the water seeing our beautiful NY Harbor. We will come back again.

The Clipper was a lot of fun. The crew seemed slightly disorganized but then again, it was the first day The Clipper was sailing in NYC. It was also Memorial Day weekend. The crew was very friendly and the boat wasn't overly crowded. Definitely a nice and relaxing day sailing around Manhattan on a beautiful sunny day. It did get chilly so I would recommend bringing some type of sweater or fleece. Fun time, would go again.
