Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra Celebrate the Stan Kenton Centennial

Full Price:
$95.00
Our Price:
$47.50

During the 1940s and '50s -- a time when jazz oscillated between cool, hot, and hard bop -- bandleader Stan Kenton's sound was considered "progressive." While other big bands were starting to break up, Kenton introduced the world to his radical and hugely successful new 40-piece orchestra, which featured such jazz stars as Lee Konitz. To celebrate Kenton's centennial, Konitz joins the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis as they revisit the time when one jazz musician knew exactly where he was going: strictly forward. The music was fantastic. Paquito D'Rivera was there performing with Pablo Aslan, and all the musicians were amazing. The tango dancers were also excellent. Had a great time!

The music was a very exciting melding traditional tango with the improvisational aspect of jazz. The performance was spectacular with incredible muscianship. Mr. Aslan was witty, and his fellow performers provided a wonderfully inviting backdrop for his intimate approach to his audience.
