The crew of the Shearwater are very friendly and a lot of fun. I went sailing with them on a weekday afternoon in early May, and there was just 2 of us on the boat (plus the crew). I hear it gets much more crowded (up to 40 passengers) on evening and weekend sails as the weather gets better. There is beer, wine, champagne, soda, etc...and you can drink as much as you want - it's included!!

I will definitely be returning with some friends next time. As this was a fun and relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

We had a fantastic time!! The staff was friendly, the boat was beautiful and the trip was extremetly relaxing. I felt like I had a mini-vacation from city life as it was so peaceful on the harbor.

A nice ship, well worth it to take for for a spin in the harbor... But be sure to bring warmer clothes, as it does get windy and chilly on the water...

The crew was nice and very attentive. If you go for the evening cruise, it's advisable to eat before you set sail, as you'll be hungry after. There is no food on board, though there are drinks. Your first drink is included, which is a nice touch.

I would recommend this to anyone. Even without great weather (it was a bit chilly and rain threatened but held off) it was beautiful and relaxing. A great, friendly crew engaged or left passengers be as they prefered. What a great time.

The trip was really fun. The crew is friendly and helpful. It was very peaceful on the water and it was a much better experience than circle line.

We had a lovely time on the trip but it should be noted that there is no sightseeing/tour descriptions as are done on the Circle Line and other tours.

We had a terrific time although it started raining the minute that we boarded the sailboat. We had prepared for bad weather so we were ok; but, what do some people think about being there without even having jackets?? The captain and crew did everything to make our evening as enjoyable as possible. The 2 lady crew members made a point of spending a little bit of time with as many guests as possible. We had guests from out of state with us and this event was the highlight of their of their weekend.

Sailing on the Schooner was really relaxing. The complimentary drinks made it even better! I definitely recommend going on the Shearwater during the afternoon hrs. The views are spectacular of downtown manhattan and the surrounding area.

We went on the sail on a beautiful Indian summer September Sunday afternoon and I took a visitor from New Zealand. The boat is beautiful and the crew were excellent. We chatted with the captain for a long time and we got to see a closeup of Lady Liberty.
The open bar and friendly service just round out an excellent sailing experience. Definitely excellent value for money and a great way to see Manhattan from the water.

It's a wonderful experience to see the NY skylight all lit up, especially under a full moon. Only downside was the lack of wind, so really didn't get the full "sailing experience" I was hoping for. Also, it took a very long time to get the boat ready and everyone on board so our 9:30pm departure was more like after 10pm.

The tour seemed kind of short to me and i wish we could've seen the Brooklyn Bridge more upfront, but overall it was a nice and relaxing boat ride. You get to have a pretty good view of Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty

The full moon sail was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend and I did it for our anniversary. I may have done more romantic things in my life, but I am hard pressed to remember any of them.

The cruise was nice, only complaint is that there were too many people on the boat. We arrived a half hour early, were among the first to board, and were still left without a place to sit. We kept having to move for the crew to control the sail and for those going below deck. We ended up sitting on the floor and making the best of it, but would have appreciated a few less people on the boat.
Other than that, the staff was nice, they kept the drinks coming and let those who wanted to be left alone be. Not a bad deal for the price.

I loved the ride on the historical Schooner Shearwater. It felt like I was on a piece of history. We were able to get close to the Statue of Liberty and took great pictures of it. It was breezy and delightful and I will definitely do it again. I loved it and I think that anyone would be happy to take the tour also. I give it a big thumbs up. Do not forget to tip the crew on board. They were very helpful in giving us the history of the schooner and very pleasant company.

We went on a Sat afternoon (12:30) and had a lovely time. The crew was very personable and friendly, the sail very relaxing, and was enjoyable for all three of us (including one person who had never been to NYC before, one person who'd visited a few times, and one NY resident). The unlimited beverages was nice - despite the breeze from the water it did get very hot so highly recommend applying lots of sunscreen.

The only negative was that it was hard to find the inital location - we ended up spotting the sailboat and just waited by there but didn't see any official ticketing area. It was fine in the end but Goldstar's directions were a bit confusing.

This boat is really nice. Its a small crew and they are very friendly. It was so relaxing just hanging out in the sun on the water. My only thing is I wish we could have seen more of the city. It kind of doesn't go very far, it just circles around the bottom of manhattan to ellis island, governors island etc.
Drinks are included, so its a pretty good deal. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen in the summer.
      Great place to take visitors!

The crew was fanastic, very helpful and attentive in replenishing our drinks. They even had little sandwiches on board for us. Gorgeous day, lots of fun! Took some visitors from out of town along and they loved it! Great way for tourists to see the skyline and the Lady Liberty.

went on a hot june day, although once out on the water it got chilly and i wished i had brought a jacket. I live in nyc and the boat was mostly tourists, lots of picture taking. we kind of just floated around the harbor, not a lot of "sailing" action, but i guess i should have expected that. There wasn't enough seating on the boat and my boyfriend and I had to keep getting up so the waitress could get beverages because everyone else on board was drinking a lot.

Very cool - nice crew, beautiful ship. We didn't have a lot of wind the night we went, so we only made it out as far as Liberty Island, but my guests loved it. Go on the late night cruise only when it's very warm out: there's nowhere to hide from bad weather or strong winds!

If you're lucky enough to catch it on a beautiful night, there's nowhere better to be in Manhattan. Doesn't matter if you're a tourist or you live a block away. The quiet of sailing, no blaring club music, a mellow, casual and friendly clientele. Bring an out-of-town guest, or bring your honey.

I have sailed on the Shearwater several times since it replaced the Petrel and found it to be an unforgettable experience each time. The server was friendly and attentive and the captain is personable. This sail is unnarrated, one of the reasons it feels distinctly untouristy; all you can hear is the wind in the sails, a creak as sails are maneuvered, and shouts of instructions from captain to crew. It's not all couples; there was a young teen taking his mother as an early Mother's Day gift and a frequent passenger alone, in his early sixties, and every age group in between. The Shearwater is a glorious experience when you don't want music blaring or need to know what each building you pass is.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. Friendly, informative crew, a beautiful craft, and a rare close-up on the Statue of Liberty . . . plus a very tasty glass of wine! We went in early May, and we really needed an extra layer of clothing. Charge up your camera battery - there are endless photo ops. Bear in mind that the early evening cruise ends around 8:30, and you may be very hungry if you went without snacks.

I took a sunset cruise with a friend to celebrate our mutual birthdays. It was fabulous! The crew was attentive, conscientious and friendly. We went out for two hours and saw the magnificent views of the Manhattan and New Jersey skylines. We passed the Statue of Liberty and cruised under the Brooklyn Bridge. The weather was cool and not too windy. The buoys clanged softly as we passed them - so magical! And the other boats passing - sailboats, the Staten Island Ferry and the Fire Dept. boat - offered a cool view. We shared the ride with about eight other passengers. All in all a great trip.

This event was great! We had such a good time! It was even a cold night and had been raining on and off, and the view was still spectacular. The crew of the boat was so friendly and fun and your tickets include one free drink. The boat is beautiful too!

We had an awesome time. The schooner has been fabulously reconstructed; you can tell from the details that the owner is proud of his schooner. The sunset behind the Statue of Liberty was breathtaking. Thanks!!
