New Orleans comes to New York's Upper West Side for one night only as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band takes the stage at Symphony Space. One of the Big Easy's most celebrated ensembles, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band represents a musical lineage that stretches back more than half a century and is tied to the actual Preservation Hall -- a legendary venue in New Orleans' French Quarter. Led by double bassist and tubist Ben Jaffe, son of founding member Allan Jaffe, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues to charm and impress audiences across the country with its signature brand of New Orleans jazz. Wonderful celebration of the short story. Four short stories were each read by a different actor, who took the stage alone and expertly performed his or her interpretation. The stories were fascinating and the actors were supremely talented. Also included was an overview of "One Story" magazine by its founders, two women who clearly revere this literary form.Written on Feb 23 2012
