straightforward reading of short stories on theme of fairy tales. gregory maguire's intro was outstanding: so intelligent, full of charm and humorous from-life examples of the power of these special stories. otherwise, readings were good, not great; stories were good, not great.
The author of Wicked, Gregory Maguire, introduces stories by contemporary writers from the new collection, My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me, edited by Kate Bernheimer. Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens), Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street) and Betsy Lippitt (Flea Theatre company The Bats) perform stories by Joyce Carol Oates, Kim Addonizio, Ilya Kaminsky, and Jonathon Keats. These varied modern spins on classic fairy tales are set in a loft in Manhattan, a futuristic alternate universe, and enchanted, haunting worlds out of time.
