During the 1940s and '50s -- a time when jazz oscillated between cool, hot, and hard bop -- bandleader Stan Kenton's sound was considered "progressive." While other big bands were starting to break up, Kenton introduced the world to his radical and hugely successful new 40-piece orchestra, which featured such jazz stars as Lee Konitz. To celebrate Kenton's centennial, Konitz joins the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis as they revisit the time when one jazz musician knew exactly where he was going: strictly forward.

The evening was fantastic. The selection of pieces, and the entire orchestra were wonderful. We had beautiful seats and the up close and personal aspect was great. Will definitely want to return to the Rose Theatre. And of course, Wynton Marsalis is always spectacular.

Absolutely loved this event. The band was awesome - there were so many instruments there! the largest brass section I've seen at this theater thus far and it sounded amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed this concert--the orchestra, our seats, just about everything!! It was especially nice for my husband, who is a little older, to see Golsin playing--he had seen him many times in the 50's and 60's.
