Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma is an extremely rare form of liver cancer that only afflicts 1 out of 36 million people worldwide. It’s an aggressive cancer with few treatment options that usually occurs in young adults with no history of liver disease. Little is known about this disease as research and funding is very limited due to its rarity.
Rebecca Stempel was diagnosed with Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma in late 2013 at the age of 23. Painful stomach aches forced Rebecca to undergo abdominal surgery removing two tumors thought to be benign. This surgery uncovered the tumors were malignant Fibrolamellars. Further tests and explorative surgeries determined the cancer had also spread. Rebecca has recently begun chemotherapy as there a few other options. Her insurance only covers a portion of the copious expenses associated with this rare disease. Rebecca is unbelievably strong and positive. She’s fighting hard and dealing with things the average person cannot fathom. So, we hope the proceeds of this show will help alleviate her financial stress and let her focus on prospering.
