This is my favorite musical and I thoroughly enjoyed this revival. The production values are excellent. I felt that Daniel Evans' performance surpassed that of Mandy Patinkin, who created the role of George on Broadway in 1984. I preferred Bernadette Peters to Jenna Russell's, but Ms. Russell packs an emotional wallop in the second act.
If you're thinking of attending this musical, please keep in mind that it's a quiet show whose rewards are in the details. If you have a wandering attention span, this isn't the show for you. A girl behind me was heard to exclaim "this is so boring." I think she might have enjoyed Hairspray more. Myself, I am immensely moved by the show and plan to see it several more times.

The visuals were great, but the music was unmemorable and some of the songs were long and tedious. Others in the audience seemed to love it, though...so maybe it just wasn't for us.

A beautiful revival of Sondheim's brilliant musical meditation on art, love, & mortality. Wonderfully performed with mesmerizing stagecraft that, though witty, served the story throughout rather than its own cleverness.

This was a wonderful production and the two leads from London along with the rest of the cast were flawless. I only wish the producers had enough $$$ to hire a full orchestra like the original. The score deserves it.

At first, due to our front row seats, we didn't think we would enjoy the show. It turned out to
be fine. We were at eye level with the stage. Also,
there were two other friendly couples next to us. We had never seen "George" before and found it to be quite wonderful. One does not usually walk out of a Sondheim show humming the tunes. His words were poetic; his music broadway classical. The performers were "tops", scenery beautiful, and technically amazing. We loved this show!

The visual effects were very effective. However, there just wasn't enough plot to the show, and I can't say that I came away humming any of the music. You had to admire the leads for learning very difficult stuff. At some points, especially in 1st scene of Act I, it was really funny, due mostly to the facial grimaces, movements, & tone of voice used by Dot.
The soldier had a great voice.

This is a wonderful show that everyone should see but especially artists of all stripes. It's a meditation on the obsession and passion for art on the part of both the creator and his/her audience. The lyrics and music are beautiful and the story well told. Deservedly it won both Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine the Pultizer Prize. What a great show!

For Sondheim fans, this is a superlative production. Excellent in its' performances and production values. Especially the clever use of
animated projections to portray the various elements of the leading characters' (George) paintings. I recommend it for any lover of musical theater.
Sadly, it closes at the end of June.

The second act completely fails to build on the positives of the first act. I wanted to know more about the characters and what happened to them a hundred years later--not just the principals. Failing that a bit more humor would have been welcome.

Outstanding evening. Brilliant stagecraft, absolutely dazzling technical wizardry that complemented superb performances, and of course the story and the lyrics of Sondheim's moving and witty exploration of the artist's absorption in the creative process--across two centuries. There were five of us attending, from 24 to 64, and we were all equally enthusiastic.

I'm a big fan of the show, very familiar with the video of the original production from the 80s. This production was just OK. The cast, especially the leads imported from London, really weren't up to Broadway standards. The seats were mid-orchestra (row K) all the way to the left side of the house. It was nice to be close to the stage, but some of the projections weren't visible from the extreme side.

Our seats were 3rd row on the left, so close to the stage that it was difficult to see the effect of Seurat's painting coming to life. Sitting in the center section would have maximized the visual impact. If you are excited about seeing "Sunday...", be sure to get center section seats!
If you haven't heard any of the songs yet, check out the music before you buy tickets. I thought the music was uninspired and repetitive, but a lot of the audience loved it.

Without in any way diminishing the original "Sunday" with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters that drew me to the theater five times, this current production from London is thrilling to the bone, the performances of Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans personifying the "connection" that thematically runs through Sondheim's brilliant and gorgeous score (now enhanced visually by digital animation), notwithstanding that George and Dot, the characters they fulfill, who should have belonged together, sadly moved on to separate lives.

Visually stunning! So much of musical theater relies only on a catchy tune or two and big dance numbers. This show uses all creative elements to transport the audience into the art. It wouldn't be my recommendation for a reluctant date or musical theater newbie but having seen all the "standards" I left feeling deeply enriched by the experience.

I am a visual artist and found this show to be interesting, in a theatrical kind of way. Typically didactic and clever Sondheim but with depth. According to people we talked to at the performance, the tone and delivery of this whole production is softer, more human, than the original Patinkin/Peters version. The visuals are terrific. Much to my surprise, the second act (which was apparently so deadly in its earlier incarnation 20 years ago) is excellent. The two leads are superb.

This is a beautifully performed, wonderfully realized production of this moving and imaginative Sondheim musical. I saw it three times when it first ran on Broadway decades ago; this production surpasses the original production, especially in the second act which works better now than it did before. But it's Act I that is absolutely ravishing, musically and visually.

This is a Sondheim musical so it may not be to everyone's liking. You will not be humming the music when you leave the show but ... for those who are willing to listen to something new (though it is over 25 years old) it's terrific. It also helps if you know something about George Seurat his master work, Sunday Afternoon on the Grand Jatte. The first act is dedicated to this creation while the second act brings the action to present day.

The show was good - fairly typical Sondheim. i.e. take a classic story and make it contemporary. For me the second act didn't work, but that is probably more Sondheim's issue than the production.
The set and costumes (in the first act) were amazing. They use projected animation to make the painting "come alive". A really cool effect!

fascinating technology-you're watching a still photo of the painting and then the figures in it get up and move! Typical Sondheim score-not hummable but very sophisticated which gave the show a depth not seen in Lloyd Webber. Gives you a lot to think about and very moving at the same time.

Fine production of a difficult modern musical. Technologically very impressive if somewhat overdone at times in the second act. Competent cast with particularly impressive female lead. A treat for those who value Sondheim's work from the eighties and beyond, less so for those expecting the normal less intellectual and musically less challenging theater experience.

The performance was lovely. The music and acting were great and the special effects were pretty cool.
Our seats were unfortunately right on the edge and up close, so we weren't able to see anything on the left side of the stage.
I would recommend this production for any Sondheim fans out there. It's a bit of a stretch for non-Broadway lovers. The only way I convinced my boyfriend to go was saying it was by the guy "who wrote Sweeney Todd (the movie)".

I enjoyed this fictional account of the creation of Seurat's 'SundayAfternoon on the Island of la Grande Jatte" quite a bit. I have to admit that I was much more taken with the first act - the 1800s section - than with the second act, which takes place in modern time.
