BRILLANT!!!

The performance was incredible from start to finish.

The dance pieces were beautiful. The two main "lovers" were exceptional!

The score really enhanced the performance, great acoustics and incredible orchestra players.

It was a gorgeous production with magnificent sets and costumes; the marvelous Delibes score was badly played by the orchestra; the soloists were all quite marvelous; the leads: - Paloma Herrera does not fulfill any of her early promise - she dances all the steps without wit or glitter and does not "light up the stage"; Marcello Gomez was glorious to behold and is an attentive partner, but his solo dancing was not of the quality of his shorter and less-glamorous colleagues in the Company. He has no speed (usually the case with taller dancers), but also no elevation!!! He is probably a character dancer with the looks of a "etoile".

Good performance of a less well-known ballet. Gilliam Murphey, whom I'd not seen before was very good as Sylviia. I enjoyed the choreography of Macmilian. Overall well worth the visit. The Delius music was not much to my taste. However, not a ballet I would see very often, unless the cast dragged me back.

Description

A ravishing fast-paced fantasy set amid verdant forests and majestic temples, Sir Frederick Ashton's mythological love story unites the huntress Sylvia and a lovelorn shepherd with the divine intervention of the deity Eros. The splendid score by Léo Delibes was so admired by Tchaikovsky that he purportedly declared: had he known the music existed at the time, he would never have composed Swan Lake.
