Amateurish.
I think that the description should have stated that it was a student performance.
The seating was not good.
The acoustics were horrible. I could not hear the words.
There was no raised stage, so people who moved out of their seats passed directly in front of the actors, and you had to figure out whether they were audience or actors.

This was a surprisingly excellent event. The cast was superb and I especially enjoyed the closeness of the audience to the performance. This was an excellent event for such a small price.

This was an excellent production. The energy and acting ability of the cast made the Langston Hughes play come to life. The venue is small and intimate enough that every seat is a great seat. I'm already looking forward to future productions there.

The production was an A-One performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The acting was very professional;the music was great.
The only negative was that the theatre was too cold. If you go, be sure to bring a heavy jacket. They are aware of this situaion; they offer you jackets.

More Information About Tambourines to Glory

Description

The gospel musical Tambourines to Glory was written by Langston Hughes, the brilliant African American author who was a part of the remarkable Harlem Renaissance.

Tambourines to Glory is a spirited tragic-comedy that follows the lives of Laura Reed and Essie Bell Johnson, who decide to start their own gospel church on a street corner in Harlem. Laura dreams of becoming rich and famous, while Essie genuinely desires to serve the Lord and her community. When the Devil (not a symbol or metaphor, but Beelzebub himself!) enters the picture, the conflict intensifies between the two women, their community and their faith. As these powerful forces collide and the conflict between the characters spirals out of control, Laura and Essie fight to find their way back from the ravages of Hell. Tambourines to Glory will have you laughing, terrified and tearful on this entertaining journey from sin to redemption.
