Just an ok event. The Rose Theatre is a spectacular venue with all state of the art acoustics, seating, angles, etc. Our seats were perfect; second row orchestra. The concert itself was slow at times and each performer was onstage less than 60 minutes. Both sets consisted of many unmoving solos by the various band members and not Blanchard or Marsalis themselves. The absolute highlight of the night was when Marsalis & Blanchard jammed together for the fifteen minute finale. I’m glad we got the tickets half price or I would have been extremely upset for the performance as a whole.

Beautiful venue; absolutely the best seat I have ever had! There are
two kinds of music -- Good and Bad. This was Good! Am trying to learn to appreciate Modern Jazz. These guys are the best but my fav piece that they played was the one that I could hum along...went because of the musicians.

Description

Two of New Orleans' finest: they both left the cradle of jazz, matriculated into Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and then helped show the world that the Big Easy is not only the cradle of jazz itself but the nexus of a vibrant scene of modern music. Leading their own groups, these two very different yet complementary composer-instrumentalists offer their own individual styles of contemporary jazz, which are as hard-hitting and melodic as they are unique.
