Excellent show! Terese has a wonderful voice and endless enthusiasm and love for the music she performed. Her band is outstanding as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the show (and the venue) and will definitely return to see her perform again.

This was our second time seeing Terese at the Iridium, and we loved it as much as the first. She has a great voice and wonderful rapport with her band and the audience. I wish I had 1/10th of her energy! The venue is really nice too ... good food and very attentive wait staff. I highly recommend this show.

Ok it is a Jazz bar but the music is something between evergreen melodies, cabaret, a bit of swing, etc... very much on the rhytmic side (not sure if this is to be considerd jazz-y), even though the differnt instruments sometimes do solos on their own (as it is typical for jazz).
Terese has a good voice, exceptional presence on stage and is funny! She tells a story about most of the songs (which I loved! It was entertainment and education in one). The band is very fantastic and they do work well togther.
We went for the first set at 8pm and we stayed for the second one at 10 PM (minimum charge required for the second one) and btw the food was unexpectedly excellent for a club (4 Tapas selections for 2 is on my recommendation list)
If I have tomention a negative - seems like the event was not well attended (which is kind of a pity given the good performance) but oh yah! you can totally find that to your advantage.. no people to elbow around.
I would consider going back in few months...

Quotes & Highlights

  • “Terese Genecco sings like Keely Smith with the energy of Louis Prima!” --Jazz vocalist/composer/lyricist Mark Winkler
  • “If you don't know who Terese Genecco is, you should! It's a gloomy world out there but with Terese Genecco & Her Little Big Band in the house, it's a whole lot brighter!" --San Francisco Examiner
  • “Frisky retro fun! "--Time Out New York
  • 'There were no 'mice' in the Ratpack - it was strictly an all-boy's club. But if Frank, Dean and Sammy ever returned from the Great Casino in the Sky, the first youngish female singer that I'd recommend to join their clan is this high-voltage entertainer. Ms. Genecco is deeply rooted in the early 1960s, the colorful last gasp of the era of swingin' lovers, and, as such, draws equally from Louis Prima and Sammy Davis on one hand and Ray Charles and Elvis on the other." --Wall Street Journal

Description

Terese Genecco is a New York City MAC, Back Stage Bistro, and Time Out New York Magazine Award-Winning vocalist, bandleader, and comedian who has quickly become an audience and critic's favorite during her open-ended run at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club.

Before relocating to New York City, the San Francisco Examiner called Genecco the “love child” of Dean Martin and Judy Garland during her 2008 Rrazz Room run in San Francisco. Genecco and her 8-piece band of top-flight New York City jazz musicians put on a high-energy show reminiscent of Louis Prima, Keely Smith, and The Rat Pack era in Las Vegas.
