Vermont band Small Change, dedicated to performing the music of Tom Waits, plays a show at B.B. King Blues Club in Times Square. The state's only Tom Waits tribute band, Small Change is led by jazz guitarist and vocalist Bob Gagnon, and that influence is clear in their performances. This five-man band of jazz and rock veterans, some of whom have been performing together for more than 20 years, know Waits' jazz-influenced music and vivid lyrical character sketches by heart, and they use their skills to craft a unique take on his music that remains true to the originals. Written on Aug 21 2012It was great fun... as usual I enjoyed BB King's club and the food there is quite good for such a club..An evening spent enjoying the performance and remembering the old times at the concerts of my youth.
It was surprising to me how many young people were there.

Written on Aug 21 2012Awesome group of musicians, perfect harmonies and a little comic relief in-between songs. They looked a little tired (probably sung these songs a few thousand times), but it was a Monday night. They sang a few of the less known songs, but that was probably partially for their own benefit, to keep things fresh. Place was full, food overpriced ($15 mac'n'cheese), but, hey, the tickets were priced right! Overall a memorable experience that I could repeat every 2-3 years.
