Lemony Snicket's The Composer is Dead is a murder mystery that takes place at the orchestra. The composer is dead -- and we must discover who did the wicked deed. The performance is intended to introduce young people to instruments in the orchestra through the guise of a humorous and thrilling mystery, keeping both children and adults immersed in the action. The orchestra will also perform the New York premiere of Embrace by Brooklyn composer Kenji Bunch, featuring Tracy Silverman on electric violin. Learn More
Guitarist Mike Rood is at the forefront of up-and-coming performers and composers in New York City. Born into a family of professional musicians, Rood has always been immersed in music. A self taught guitarist until late high school, in recent years Rood has studied with such musicians as Bruce Dunlap, Adam Rogers, John Patitucci, Vic Juris, John Abercrombie, Kenny Werner, & Claudia Villela.
Rood is passionate about bringing music to new places and nurturing the development of the guitar; he is one of only a handful of guitarists in the instrument’s history to utilize a unique technique based on the usage of five fingerpicks, rather than a standard pick or nails. This revolutionary approach has opened doors to contrapuntal improvising, and a pianistic, articulate style of playing.
