A jazz singer and new-music composer with eclectic tastes and prodigious gifts, Grammy nominee Theo Bleckmann makes music that is accessibly sophisticated, unsentimentally emotional and seriously playful, leading his work to be described as "from another planet" by The New York Times. Bleckmann has released a series of gorgeous and irreverent albums on the Winter & Winter label, including recordings of Las Vegas standards, Berlin Kabarett, and popular bar songs. His more recent releases include a 2009 recording of newly-arranged songs by Charles Ives with jazz-rock collective Kneebody, and his 2010 acoustic solo album I Dwell in Possibility. He has collaborated with such notable musicians and composers as Laurie Anderson, Uri Caine, Philip Glass, John Hollenbeck, Sheila Jordan, Phil Kline, David Lang, Kirk Nurock, Ben Monder, Michael Tilson Thomas, Kenny Wheeler, John Zorn, the Bang on a Can All-Stars and Meredith Monk. His concert at Highline Ballroom celebrates the recent release of his latest project, Hello Earth! The Music of Kate Bush.

Highline Ballroom welcomes singer-songwriter David Johansen to the stage. Johansen's newest album, Dancing Backward in High Heels (2011), truly represents a retrospective on his entire music career, which has been hugely varied. From the power-pop sound of the '60s, to his time with the protopunk band the New York Dolls in the 1970s, to the jazz- and R&B-tinged sounds of his work under the pseudonym Buster Poindexter in the '80s, to his foray into country blues in the '90s, and back to his recent collaboration with the Dolls once again, Johansen is truly a multifaceted entertainer. He also currently hosts David Johansen's Mansion of Fun, a weekly radio show on Sirius. Learn More
