Steve Lukather is one of the best session players around and to see him in a venue this small with such an accomplished band was truly remarkable. Venue was awesome where else in NYC can two people see a top notch show for under 50 bucks including drinks?

Description

Toxic Monkey: Bill Evans and Steve Lukather, with Steve Weingart, Will Lee and Keith Carlock

Featuring: Bill Evans, saxophones Steve Lukather, guitar Steve Weingart, keyboards Will Lee, bass Keith Carlock, drums

Bill Evans and Steve Lukather are teaming up at the Blue Note with a brand new all-star band they call Toxic Monkey with keyboardist Steve Weingart, bassist Will Lee and drummer Keith Carlock.

"Toxic Monkey represents the no holds barred concept of out of control semi-restraint," Evans says, "or in some circles it’s called OCSR. We thought the name really captures this band. It's not a fusion of anything. It's some musicians who come from different backgrounds who like to create music together. Everyone adds their own spice to the mix."

Fronting the group along with Evans is guitarist, vocalist, composer, producer, arranger and multi-Grammy award winner, and Musician's Hall of Famer, Steve Lukather (Toto).  Lukather's most recent release, titled “ All's Well That Ends Well,” is a recording he calls "his best work." It will be available in February, 2011.

In addition to his successful solo career, Lukather is also known as one of the world's top session guitarists, his sound instantly recognizable on recordings by legendary musicians such as Don Henley, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Jeff Beck, Alice Cooper, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Lionel Richie, and Van Halen, to name a few. He has appeared on over 1,200 recordings, 200 of which are gold or platinum records.

It is no surprise that Bill Evans has been called a renaissance man more than once. He has explored a variety of musical settings that go well beyond the confines of traditional jazz. Beginning his career with Miles Davis at the age of 22 (Bill appeared on six recordings with Davis), followed by John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock and Mick Jagger, just to name a few.

Both Evans and Lukather's versatility and unique, all-inclusive approach to music represent the concept behind Toxic Monkey: "I personally get inspired by fresh music thats full of passion," says Evans. "No one holds back in this band. If you are in the room when we play, you can't help but feel the energy emanating from the bandstand. Sometimes its rock and roll, sometimes funk, sometimes jazz. Life is too short for boring music!”
