You'll marvel as puppets made of trash perform death-defying acts and suspenseful feats in Urbano's Circus. Inspired by artist Alexander Calder's famed sculpture Circus, experienced puppeteers take to the stage to bring characters including Ivan the Iron-Clad Stomach, Clyde the Fearless Clown and Boris the Elastic Acrobat to life. Richard Grunn, the lead puppeteer in this production, has performed at venues all over the U.K. and Ireland, including the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Learn More

It dealt with the brutality of war, and the consequence of "ethnic cleansing" was not brought out clearly. I think perhaps the main weakness was the lead who had returned from war -- a totally unsympathetic and unattractive individual, whom you knew was that way even before the war. Using blacks for two of the characters was pc, but it was confusing the message of the play regarding "ethnic cleansing" -- i.e., was it because the family was an interracial one that it was "saved", or was that a reason the family was decimated?
In any event, the play was good, but not great.
Written by Lars Norén and directed by Anders Cato.
Through this simple family tale, Norén creates a powerful human statement about the realities of living through war and genocide in our century.
Europe's most produced playwright comes to Rattlestick for his New York debut. The author of some 50 plays, Lars is also the Artistic Director of the Rikstheaten, Sweden's national theater.
