I had no idea that the Budapest Festival Orchestra was considered one of the top ten symphony orchestras in the world but this concert gave it validity. From the very beginning with the surprise entry of the conductor (and half the musicians) to the tango performed by two of the strng players, and an oustanding rendition of Haydn's Cello Concerto it was an enjoyable evening. I don't think I've ever heard Stravinsky's Firebird Suite performed so beautifully. The precision of the brass and percussion was incredible and the harp exquisite in its delicate arpeggios. Wow!!Written on Jan 28 2011
