One Night With Janis Joplin adds some actual Fourth of July fireworks to the musical ones produced on stage, with a post-show barbeque buffet on the Arena Stage terrace -- a prime viewing spot for the famed pyrotechnics launched on the National Mall. First up is the show, a part-concert, part-theatrical event that captures Janis Joplin's life and legacy in all its live intensity. Mary Bridget Davies stars as the rock legend in a performance that has audiences dancing in the aisles and critics raving. Featuring powerful musical numbers including "Piece of My Heart, "Summertime" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as one song Joplin never formally recorded, One Night boasts a full band and a cast including Sabrina Elayne Carten, who plays Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. Written on Jun 25 2012It was too crowded. The venue was wrong, & I will not attend other events held there. The doorman thought they were bouncing a nightclub. Baconery, Bacon Bites & Lucky 777 Chili had the best food and great attitudes. Tommy Lasagna acted as if they were doing you a favor by being present. Little Town's bacon potato chips were great.

Written on Jun 25 2012This event was barely worth even the discounted price. We had our hopes high. It took us a half hour to do the whole event and if it werent for the crowd we could have been done faster. There was a not large variety of foods or new ideas. The shot was gross and most of the tastings, you could barely notice if at all the bacon. Very disappointing. A sweet sixteen would have used a bigger space.
