After a six-year run at Broadway's Golden Theatre, the massively popular, Tony-winning adult puppet musical Avenue Q now calls New World Stages its home. Full of humor and hummable tunes, Avenue Q is a hilarious look at life in New York, featuring a fantastic cast of people and puppets. In its Broadway debut, Avenue Q scored the "Triple Crown" of Tony wins, grabbing honors for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The lovable cast of characters, both flesh and felt, includes recent college grad Princeton, who moves to Avenue Q full of hope for the future, Kate (the girl/monster next door), and the colorful collection of neighbors who help Princeton discover his purpose in life. I want to start off by saying that the staff in general was extremely unorganized, two of the ticket takers had no idea what "Goldstar" even was and they had to hunt down one of the managers who was semi-clueless herself. There was in fact food, but we were told that the food was only served at 6:00pm and we should've gotten there early, even though the show started at 9:15pm and we had no intention of arriving earlier than 8:00pm. There were 2 open bars that we were made aware of. One with ONLY beer and the other, where they could serve wine, beer, make cocktails etc., there was a line of people waiting forever to get drinks, however no bartender anywhere in site and when we asked the workers if someone was going to fill in at the bar, they seemed to be completely out of it. We ended up getting drinks from the bar that ONLY offered beer (they had 4 or 5 different kinds), which was nice if you're a big beer drinker. The line for the show was really long but much like the beer line, once it started moving it went really fast. They gave out free books (the book Flashforward, that the show was based on), which made sense and lottery tickets for free giveaways after the premiere for an X-Box and full season DVD's for other ABC shows. We were able to get some really good seats right in the middle and although many people were talking through the show, we had a really good time. As far as the show itself was concerned, I thought it was something unique and could see myself watching it from time to time, if time permits. I thought there was going to be an actor/actress discussion afterwards ,but there wasn't any mention of it and the last thing I wanted to do was speak to any more zombie employees, lol. Heck, the event was free and I got some free beer so even with all the inconsistencies, I still had a good time and would do it again.
Be the first to see the hottest and most anticipated new drama of the season, ABC’s FlashForward. From Executive Producer, David Goyer (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight), FlashForward begins with a mysterious global event causes everyone to black out simultaneously for two minutes and seventeen seconds, and each person sees a glimpse of their lives six months from now. When they wake up, everyone is left wondering if what they saw will actually happen.
The event will feature an exclusive sneak peek of the show for NYTVF audiences before it is premiered on ABC later that week. Attendees will have the opportunity to win an Xbox 360 and DVD box sets of some of ABC’s biggest hits including Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. Complimentary beer and refreshments will be available in the lobby of New World Stages where the screening will take place.
