The first half had three youth orchestras, all of whom were fantastic. The second half were 3 choirs - two of which were good, one, amazing. For Goldstar prices, this was a steal. The program was a bit long (about 2 and half hours with a short intermission). I would not recommend bringing very very young children (under 5). A lot of young families left after the first half. Great showcase of young talent as well as the variety of groups from across the country.

Quotes & Highlights

  • “As far as we know, it is the only significant work written with the theme of Kwanzaa. Each movement of Burleigh’s work captures the essence of one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa – Unity; Self Determination; Collective Work and Responsibility; Cooperative Economics; Purpose; Creativity and Faith. The text in each movement is equally important as the music.” – Guest Conductor James Kinchen on Glenn Burleigh’s Nguzo Saba Suite
