Pseudolus is the real deal: a play that keeps getting funnier with each passing millennium. Having inspired Stephen Sondheim's mega-hit A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, this masterwork by Plautus (circa 254-184 B.C.) connects with modern audiences in a way that few other comedies, ancient or modern, can. Calidorus, a strapping young Roman, is in a fix. He is in love with Phoenicium, but she belongs to a brothel and is about to be sold to an ugly, old soldier from Macedonia. Desperate to stop this, Calidorus enlists Pseudolus, a clever slave, to help save Phoenicium from this Macedonian nightmare and win her freedom. Thomas R. Gordon directs his own adaptation of this raucous comedy for The Onomatopoeia Theatre Company. Learn More
